I know agents collect a commission from the sale of a house, but do they collect a fee for listing the property for sale?

no. we get no money in fact it costs me about $400 every time I list a house with no guarantee I will ever get a commission. I pay for signs and advertising photographer etc. then I get 3% to my brokerage if I the home sells. I own my own brokerage so I dont pay fees but most realtors only come out with half of the 3% listing commission after paying taxes and their broker. hope this helps

No, not usually.
Listing fees are about 20 bucks for the agent, but they pay it, not the seller. Writing a good MLS ad is part of the job of selling the house.

There are some companies that charge a flat free to list your home, but then you only pay the buyers agent a commission when it sales. This is the exception though. Most of the time you don’t pay anything until it sells.
